Candice 40 From Australia

Her birth in the 1980s was covered across all the leading dailies in Australia. As the first IVF baby in the country, Candice’s journey has been one filled with miracles. Candice recalls how her mother’s Fallopian tubes were severely impacted by appendicitis and peritonitis. And how devastating it was for her to know that she would never be able to have children. Her parents then heard about this new artificial insemination program at the Royal Women’s Hospital. And as they say, the rest is history.

26 Years After Princess Elizabeth became Queen

Princess Elizabeth became the Queen of England in 1952 and it was 26 years later, in 1978, that the first test tube baby – Louise Brown – was born in Oldham General Hospital, Lancashire. Louise’s parents had been trying to conceive for eight to nine years but her mother’s blocked Fallopian tubes were creating complications. This also brought the Nobel Prize in Medicine to Robert Edwards for his work in the field of reproductive medicine, and in-vitro fertilisation (IVF).
